But your eyes are delicate, and some symptoms need attention quickly. When something feels wrong, it’s important not to wait and hope it goes away.

When something is wrong with your eye, urgent care or the emergency room may seem like the obvious next step. But for many eye-specific emergencies, your eye doctor should be your first call.
At ForSight, we have the specialized equipment needed to examine the eye closely, evaluate the cornea, check for scratches or foreign objects, assess sudden vision changes, and look at the retina when symptoms require it. That level of eye-specific care is not always available in a general urgent care setting.
Calling ForSight first can help you get the right care faster and may help you avoid the long wait and higher out-of-pocket cost of an urgent care or emergency department visit for many urgent eye symptoms.
If your symptoms are severe or involve major trauma, stroke-like symptoms, or a medical emergency beyond the eye itself, go to the emergency room or call 911. But for many urgent eye problems, ForSight is the right place to start.
Eye emergencies can look different from person to person. Sometimes the problem is obvious, like something stuck in the eye. Other times, it may be a sudden change in vision, pain, redness, or light sensitivity that doesn’t feel normal.
At ForSight, we evaluate and treat many urgent eye problems, including:
A corneal abrasion is a scratch on the clear front surface of the eye. It can feel like something is stuck in your eye, and it may cause pain, tearing, redness, blurry vision, or light sensitivity. These scratches should be checked quickly so we can help protect the eye and support proper healing.
Wearing contact lenses too long, sleeping in lenses, or continuing to wear contacts when your eye feels irritated can lead to redness, pain, inflammation, or infection. If your eye hurts, feels light-sensitive, or your vision changes while wearing contacts, take them out and call us.
A red eye can be caused by many things, including infection, inflammation, allergies, dryness, or irritation. Not every red eye is pink eye, and not every red eye needs the same treatment. We can examine your eyes and determine what’s causing the redness so you get the right care.
If something gets in your eye, such as dust, metal, glass, sand, or debris, please don’t rub it. Rubbing can make the injury worse. If the object feels stuck or sharp, or your eye still hurts after rinsing, call ForSight right away so we can evaluate it safely.
Severe or unusual eye pain should never be ignored. Pain can come from many causes, including scratches, inflammation, infection, pressure changes, or injury. If your eye pain feels intense, sudden, or different from anything you’ve experienced before, call us.
Light sensitivity can happen with inflammation, infection, corneal scratches, contact lens problems, or other eye conditions. If light suddenly feels painful or difficult to tolerate, especially with redness, pain, or blurry vision, we want to see you quickly.
Sudden blurred vision or distorted vision can be a sign that something has changed in the eye. If your vision suddenly looks blurry, wavy, distorted, cloudy, or different than usual, call our office right away.
Flashes can look like quick streaks, sparks, or a camera flash in the side of your vision. New flashes of light should be checked promptly because they can sometimes be related to changes in the retina.
Patients don’t always know the word “floaters,” but they usually know what they’re seeing. These can look like spots, dots, strings, cobwebs, or squiggly lines drifting through your vision. A few can happen gradually over time, but new spots, a sudden increase, or spots that come with flashes of light or a shadow in your vision should be evaluated right away.
Eye injuries can happen from accidents, sports, yard work, home projects, chemicals, or debris. If your eye is injured, painful, swollen, bleeding, or your vision changes after an injury, call us immediately so we can help determine the safest next step.
When something happens to your eye, it’s natural to want to fix it quickly. But a few common instincts can actually make an eye injury worse.
