ForSight in the Community: Dr. Morrow’s Savannah Update

Dr. Erika Morrow, Author

Dining in the Dark with ForSight” event collage with photos of attendees and speakers at the Savannah Convention Center.

If you know me, you know ForSight has never been just about eye exams and eyewear.

Yes, we care deeply about helping people see clearly and feel confident in what they wear. Just as much, I care about how we show up for our Savannah community. We hire local, support local nonprofits and businesses, and make local choices in the little things too, including the hand soap we refill our dispensers with.

Back in December, we held a fundraiser for the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision, and together we raised $10,215! That number means so much to me, especially knowing this was our 7th annual event. Since our very first event in 2019, which we hosted as our grand opening celebration, we have raised $37,780! What started as one special night has turned into a tradition we look forward to every year, and our guests truly make it unforgettable.

A couple of weeks ago, the ForSight team and I attended Dining in the Dark, and it really is one of the most unique dining experiences in Savannah. Beyond raising funds and awareness around blindness and vision impairment, the event is a powerful reminder of what many in our community navigate every day.

At the event, I had the honor of presenting a $1,000 scholarship to Julius Campbell, and I want more people to know his story.

Julius lost his vision at a very young age. After attending the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision, he kept pushing forward and built an incredible path for himself and for others. He works as a life navigator, earned his master’s degree, and started Offender Alumni Association Savannah, where he helps system-impacted men and women as they transition out of prison.

He’s a counselor, teacher, minister, and a true leader in our community. The way he pours into others reminds you what purpose looks like.

And while I’m sharing community love, I also want to spotlight someone very special to us at ForSight, David. David has been a longtime patient and supporter since I opened ForSight. He has amazing style and is a true eyewear collector. Fun fact: he also takes care of the orchids in our office that everyone compliments!

David recently opened his own flower shop, The Skylark Society, a floral and plant studio here in Savannah, and I couldn’t be prouder of him! If you can, please support his business and follow him at @theskylarksociety.

For me, this is what ForSight is about: care, connection, and community.

Thank you for helping us support organizations like the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision, and thank you for supporting local businesses.

With love and gratitude,

Dr. Morrow
